Overview

The Catholic Church's deep respect for Muslims is outlined in the Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions, Nostra Aetate, promulgated by the Second Vatican Council on 28 October 1965. The Declaration acknowledged the historical conflicts and disagreements between Christians and Muslims, and called upon both faith communities to move beyond past grievances and embark on a new journey of mutual understanding and collaboration. This call from the Second Vatican Council has paved the way for substantial advancements in Christian-Muslim relations worldwide.
